Burnout therapy
You didn't work this hard to feel this empty.
Burnout therapy offers professionals a pathway to reclaim their energy, purpose, and satisfaction in both work and life. If you have been pushing through exhaustion, feeling detached from work that once excited you, or noticing that your usual coping strategies no longer seem effective, you are not alone. I am Dr. Casey of White Orchid Psychiatry, and I specialize in helping driven professionals understand the deeper roots of burnout and develop lasting strategies for recovery.
Burnout therapy is not simply about learning to manage stress or checking items off a self-care list. My approach is rooted in psychodynamic principles, which means we will work together to uncover the underlying factors that drive you to overextend, ignore your own needs, or struggle to set boundaries. This deeper level of insight creates changes that last far beyond our work together and helps you not only maintain your career but truly thrive in it.
Understanding Burnout: More Than Just Being Tired
Burnout is a state of chronic physical, emotional, and mental exhaustion that develops gradually over time. Unlike ordinary fatigue that resolves with rest, burnout persists even after vacations or time away from work.
For high-achieving professionals, burnout often develops silently. The very traits that made you successful, such as your drive, commitment, and willingness to go the extra mile, can become the same traits that lead you toward burnout when left unchecked. You might notice that passion has been replaced by going through the motions, or that tasks which used to energize you now feel like burdens.
What makes burnout particularly challenging is that many professionals have difficulty recognizing it in themselves. There is often a tendency to push through, believing things will improve once the current project ends. This pattern only deepens the burnout cycle.
The Psychodynamic Approach to Burnout Recovery
My approach differs from methods that focus solely on behavioral changes or surface-level techniques. While those approaches can provide temporary relief, they often fail to address why you developed burnout in the first place.
Psychodynamic therapy explores how your early experiences, family dynamics, and developmental history shape your current relationship with work, achievement, and self-worth. Many professionals who experience burnout have internalized beliefs about their value being tied to productivity or accomplishments. These beliefs often have roots in childhood experiences where love or approval felt conditional on performance.
By examining these patterns together, we can identify the unconscious motivations that drive overwork and difficulty with boundaries. When you understand why you feel compelled to say yes to every request or why your sense of self-worth fluctuates with professional success, you gain the freedom to respond differently. This creates lasting change because it addresses root causes rather than just symptoms.
What to Expect When Working with Me
The Intake Process
When you decide to begin working together, you will complete intake paperwork that asks about your history and current concerns. While this paperwork is somewhat lengthy, it serves an important purpose: it allows me to gather essential background information so that our initial appointment can focus entirely on what matters most to you. You will have the floor to share your experience in your own words.
When booking your appointment, you will provide credit card information, but it will not be charged until the appointment takes place.
Our Work Together
In our sessions, we will explore not just what is happening in your work life but how it connects to broader patterns. I will help you understand the dynamics that contribute to your burnout, including the internal expectations you hold yourself to and the beliefs about your worth that may be operating outside your awareness.
I offer both online sessions and in-person appointments, providing flexibility to fit therapy into your demanding schedule.
Ongoing Care
Once we have established our working relationship, you can book your own appointments through the patient portal. If there are reflective exercises that might deepen our work between sessions, I may suggest optional homework for those who are interested. Communication between sessions is handled through the portal, where I respond within 24 to 48 hours.
Taking the First Step
Reaching out for support can feel challenging, especially for those accustomed to handling everything independently. Beginning therapy does not mean you are broken or incapable. It means you are wise enough to recognize when you need support and courageous enough to seek it.
I welcome clients from Lakeway, TX and the surrounding areas, as well as those who prefer online sessions. I invite you to reach out through my website to discuss scheduling and to ask any questions you might have.
